Meramec Valley R-III School District was awarded the 2019 Missouri Department of Natural Resources Solid Waste Management Program Grant. The grant allowed the school district to purchase 29 tables (including 8 wheelchair accessible tables) and 20 benches to be distributed around the school district. Tables and benches are made of reground polymer (recycled plastic) and crumb rubber, using more than 40% scrap tires generated in Missouri. The grant allowed the district to provide additional seating for students, staff, and the general public to use during school and for after school events. At Pacific High School, four (4) tables have been installed at the baseball/softball complex, six (6) tables installed at the athletic stadium concession stand, and four (4) benches were installed in front of the high school. Riverbend Middle School have three (3) tables at their outdoor lunch area and three (3) benches outside the front entrance of the school. Pacific Intermediate have three (3) tables along with three (3) benches on their playground. Nike and Robertsville Elementary Schools have two (2) tables and two (2) benches placed near their playgrounds. Coleman, Truman, and Zitzman Elementary Schools have three (3) tables and two (2) benches installed on their playgrounds. The new reground polymer and crumb rubber tables do not split, splinter, or rot and are sun and moisture resistant requiring little maintenance.
