Patriot Day was quite the success and very informative at Nike Elementary! Fourth grade students led a school-wide ceremony outside, where the Pledge of Allegiance and the Scout Pledge was recited by all in attendance. Following this morning assembly, students were able to spend a portion of their day with members from the Pacific Fire District, the Meramec Ambulance District, and the Franklin County Sheriff's Department. Several stations around the exterior of the school were set up for classes to meet and visit with these vital community members. While at each station, students had the opportunity to see the vehicles and gear of each first responder, and to ask pertinent questions. When talking to students about our morning celebration of Patriot Day, many had exciting things to say. Kindergarten student, Shaun Lambert, really liked the SWAT truck because it looked like it was from the Army. When asked if she enjoyed having the first responders at our school, 3rd grade student, Kaydence Moles, said, "Yeah, my favorite was the one with the doggie!" Kaydence also added, "I love dogs and I got to pet their pup." The Franklin County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit was definitely a fan favorite. It was such a wonderful sight to see our Nike Scouts so engaged in the presence of these real-life heroes! We thank them for their visit to Nike Elementary and for their service to our community!
